Open burning season is from January 15 through May 1 between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A $10 permit from Dighton Fire-Rescue is required prior to any open burning.
To obtain and use a burn permit in Dighton follow these easy steps!
- Step 1: New Users Register for an account on dighton.firepermits.com
Existing Users, Login to dighton.firepermits.com
- Step 2: Click Apply for a Permit – Select Burn Permit and fill out the necessary information
After you have applied for a permit, you must then submit payment online - Step 3: Submit Payment Online via City Hall Systems
- Step 4: Daily Activation – On any day you plan to burn you will need to log into your account and activate your permit
The Dighton Fire Department reserves the right to reject/cancel any burning permit issued.
Open burning must be located on land proximate to the place of generation, and a location greater than 75 feet from any dwelling.
- Open Burning must be conducted:
- During periods of good atmospheric ventilation
- Without causing a nuisance
- With smoke minimizing starters if used
You will be unable to activate your burn permit if conditions are unsafe. Check the dighton.firepermits.com homepage for burn safety status when you plan to burn.
Open burning permits may be issued for:
- Training or research in fire protection or prevention with specific approval by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
- Activities associated with the normal pursuit of agriculture, which has been determined by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection as necessary.
- Open burning of brush and trees resulting from agriculture land clearing operations.
- Disposal of brush, cane, driftwood, and forestry debris – excluding grass, hay, leaves, and stumps.
