Dighton Fire Department Knocks Down Blaze at Small Commercial Garage

Chief Christopher Maguy reports that the Dighton Fire Department and its mutual aid partners knocked down a working fire Tuesday night in a small garage.

The first call reporting a fire at 2218 Winthrop St., a commercial property, came at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a small fire in the front corner of a 35-foot-by-20-foot garage. Crews knocked down the fire quickly and were wrapping up the fire as of early Tuesday night.

“Our crews got to the scene very quickly, and that gave us a leg up on fighting the fire,” Chief Maguy said.

Firefighters from Berkley and Taunton provided mutual aid. Swansea and Rehoboth crews provided mutual aid.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Dighton Fire Department and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
