Chief Christopher Maguy and the Dighton Fire Department would like to congratulate firefighters Kevin Campanella and Sarah Desmond upon their graduation from the Fall River Fire Academy training program.
Firefighters Campanella and Desmond were two of 14 graduates from the Fall River Fire Academy Class 32, who officially graduated from the training program on Friday, June 30th during a ceremony at the Matthew J. Kuss Middle School in Fall River.
Campanella and Desmond will work as full time firefighters out of Dighton Fire Station 1.
During the 10-week training program, participants learn the basic skills they need to respond to emergencies, including lessons on fire behavior and suppression, public fire education, hazardous material incident mitigation, flammable liquids, stress management and self-rescue techniques. The program involves classroom instruction, physical fitness training, firefighter skills training and live firefighting practice. To graduate, they must demonstrate proficiency in life safety, search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operation and fire attack techniques. Upon completion of the training, they have also met the standards of National Fire Protection Association 1001.
Other graduates of Class 32 represent the fire departments of Fall River and Taunton.
